Howard Utra, RN, BSN
Mr. Howard Utra was born in Havana, Cuba. After coming to the United States, he studied nursing at Barry University where he graduated with his Bachelor’s degree. Mr. Utra began his career working in a home care facility, he was promoted to supervisor; overseeing most of the wound patients. Transitioning to a research center, Howard developed his passion for investigating and comparing treatment modalities. Mr. Utra’s passion for wound care includes his successful graduation from Emory University WOCN program and board certification in wound care. He advanced his wound care career at Florida Hospital Tampa where he runs the inpatient wound care program, assists with the education of resident nurses, critical care nurses and students from universities such as USF and UT.
He is currently working with USF in establishing an international program on wound care for European University exchange students. He has incorporated products from Acelity/KCI since the beginning of his career and he has developed and participated in multiple studies comparing techniques and devices to achieve the best level of care for his patients. The main focus of his current practice is advanced modalities of therapy and the use of products such as JG – add ‘products such as’ (have assumed this not combination use, therefore should avoid any such misinterpretation) VERAFLO™ Therapy, PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix and PREVENA™ Therapy. He has also completed studies on reduction surfaces and other wound care products saving his facility up to a million dollar a year.
